The intimate setting of the Helford Theatre will be transformed into an atmospheric jazz club for the night to showcase the talents of Truro College / University of Plymouth Contemporary World Jazz Degree Students.
The 17-piece band and singers was founded in 2006 and led by course leader, pianist, composer and arranger Vivian Rodd who himself regularly performs in Cornwall and beyond. Regulars at the St Ives Jazz Club at the Western Hotel in St Ives will probably have seen him and some of his students perform to an enthusiastic and discerning crowd.
With a mixture of Swing, Fusion, Latin, Crossover, Free, Be-Bop, Ballads and Blues, this amazingly talented group of musicians will hold you spellbound and wanting more.
There will be a licensed bar open on the night so you can enjoy a tipple whilst tapping your feet. Seating will be arranged around tables so why not come along with a few friends and make a night of it.

ETC is thrilled to welcome world class exponents of contemporary African dance, Tavaziva, to Cornwall. 'Wild Dog' captures the beauty and elegance of one of Africa's most endangered species, whilst delving deep into the unknown and articulation of the beast. Tavaziva implores audiences to join the dramatic dancers as their bodies pulsate and vibrate against the mind-blowing soundtrack cut and arranged by award-winning Zimbabwean-born choreographer and composer Bawren Tavaziva. There is a planned curtain raiser by members of Cornwall Youth Dance Company, the result of work produced in a residency workshop with Tavaziva.
Due to the smaller capacity of the Helford Theatre, tickets are expected to sell quickly for this one off performance in Cornwall. Please book your tickets in advance

The Fitzwilliam QuartetTruro Three Arts is thrilled to be able to complete this ambitious season with a performance by the famous Fitzwilliam String Quartet. Founded in 1969 by four Cambridge undergraduates including Alan George from Cornwall, the Fitzwilliam String Quartet originally became well known through their close personal association with the composer Dmitri Shostakovich. He entrusted them with the Western premières of his last three quartets, and they were the first ever group to perform and record all fifteen. This secured them a long-term contract with Decca, for whom they recorded Franck, Delius, Borodin, Sibelius, and Beethoven cycle. Their recordings have gained many international awards, including the accolade of the very first Gramophone Award for chamber music, in 1977. Their Shostakovich set (still available) was named by the same publication in its "Hundred Greatest-ever Recordings" in November 2005.
We are extremely pleased that the quartet has agreed to include Shostakovich's String Quartet no 8 (The Dresden) in their programme to complete the 2009 - 2010 season. Grainger - Molly on the Shore Haydn - String Quartet in D Major Op 50/6 (Frog) Shostakovich - String Quartet No 8 "Dresden" Sibelius - String Quartet Voces Intimae (No 4)
Cube Theatre come towards the end of the Cornwall leg of their tour of The Locksmith's Wife at Truro College
The Locksmith's Wife is a Dickensian comedy by Mark Crees. It is funny and entertaining and features some larger than life eccentric characters that could have walked out of a Dickens novel.
"Her father knew they were mismatched, but she was stubborn. A mere locksmith for a husband! And now look at them, years later, bickering and divided..."
"How can his shop thrive when her 'literary activities' make him a laughing stock? The audiences for her weekly Dickens readings bring in money! He's just trying to stifle her creative urges"
"One day a mysterious visitor arrives with a challenge for the Locksmith that might at last change his fortunes for the better. But his wife falls ill, and the Locksmith has to make a choice - a choice that will force him to face his deepest secret."
Poignant and heart-warming, The Locksmith's Wife is a bittersweet tale of redemption in a blighted marriage.
This is a comedy with zest, cream, and an Italian accent ? think zabaglione! - in a new English language production by William Oldroyd and Agnes Treplin, with Dominic Wheeler conducting. Keel Watson plays Don Pasquale, a stubborn, competitive, old bachelor ? and here a tyrant opera conductor ? who wants to find himself a young wife. He seems set to steal from his nephew a beautiful, and apparently submissive bride ? but his clumsy wooing turns to woe when she reveals her own mind. Nicholas Sharratt, Mary O?Sullivan and Owen Gilhooley share Donizetti?s finest bel canto song-writing in this wonderful score, much loved and not so often performed.

An energetic, period costume production (faithful to the original!) of one of the world?s most popular operas.
Based on Beaumarchais? controversial play, Mozart?s opera (sung in English) traces the intrigues of one day at the house of Count Almaviva. Figaro (Robert Davies) is to marry Susanna (here played by Eliana Praetorian), but he must overcome every obstacle put in his way by the Count and his cronies before he can be united finally with his bride. James Conway?s production, set in steamy Seville, showcases exciting young singers, including Laura Mitchell and Nicholas Lester as Count and Countess.

ETO?s hugely successful 2004 production of the Britten/Shakespeare masterpiece returns. In a fairy-haunted wood, lovers? knots are tangled, and strange dreams create monstrous romances. Only in a hilarious play performed by working men are all the opera?s tensions and enchantments eased.
Visually spectacular, Joanna Parker?s design (complete with Jacobean costumes) and James Conway?s production celebrates the best of English music and theatre. Michael Rosewell conduct?s Britten?s eerie, highly theatrical score, and Jonathan Peter Kenny, Andrew Slater and David Gooderson (best known as the original Dr Who Davros) reprise the roles of Oberon, Bottom and Puck.
***** Hike miles to see this...ETO?s staging of Britten?s A Midsummer Night?s Dream is wonderful beyond words. A corker of a show from a tip-top team. - The Independent.
